Air pollution over Beijing (China) and New Delhi (India) (acquired Nov. 30, 2015 and Dec. 4, 2015)

The first image shows air pollution spreading from Beijing toward southern and eastern regions, as captured by the TANSO/CAI loaded on the Greenhouse gasses Observing SATellite (GOSAT) “IBUKI” on November 30. GOSAT flies over the same location every three days; however, in December, Beijing was covered with thick clouds and thus the clear image of TANSO/CAI on December 7, when Beijing issued the red air pollution alert, was not captured.

The TANSO/CAI image on December 4 shows the air pollution spreading from New Delhi, the capital of India located in the south of the Himalaya Mountains, through Lucknow. In contrast, the ground surface of the Himalaya Mountains and the central part of India can be seen clearly.
